We believed the pygmy possums became extinct due to a bushfire. Recent discoveries, however, indicate that the species has reappeared with the assistance of wild animal officials.
Kangaroo Island Land for Wildlife, an Australian conservation group, was able to observe an actual pygmy possum in the wild and report the news.
Since the Australian bushfires of 2019-2020, the pygmy possum has been thought to be extinct for roughly the past year. These bushfires were so destructive and caused so much damage, in fact, that they nearly destroyed half of Kangaroo Island.
