BROTHER PUP IS SUPER PROTECTIVE OF HIS SISTER THEN ANIMAL SHELTER REALIZES SHE’S SPECIAL NEEDS

Rescuers discovered why the pair couldn’t be separated.”When Star appears to be lost, Denver will rush over to her and check on her.”Star and Denver are two puppies who appear to be having a good time on the outside, but their happy bond extends beyond the surface.Denver is not only Star’s younger brother; he is also her seeing-eye dog!Or you could say he’s her guiding light.

We’ve all heard of guide dogs for the blind, but dogs can also become blind and require assistance.Star, a sweet puppy, got lucky because she was born into a litter with a fantastic brother who can’t “see” life without her!Denver is always by Star’s side, no matter where she goes. It’s a perfect match, but it wasn’t always that way.

Because the two pups got the short end of the stick early in life, “the rest of their lives” almost didn’t happen.Because they were born into an unwanted litter and abandoned alongside their mother in a rural area of Louisiana!Mama and her eight pups were thankfully found by a caring family, who were so taken with mom that they decided to keep her. They didn’t simply abandon the puppies in the woods again; instead, they asked a rescue center to find a home for all of the fur babies after they finished nursing.

Unfortunately, the rescue center was already overrun with other puppies, so the rescue sought assistance from the Helen Woodward Animal Center (HWAC) in San Diego!HWAC acted quickly and transported Star and Denver, along with 31 other little puppies, all the way across the country to their west coast facility. These two siblings hoped for a second chance at life there.

Until Star arrived at the center, no one realized she had special needs. While Star’s littermates frolicked and played like normal rambunctious doggos, the sweet 3-month-old Terrier was trying to make sense of the confusing world around her by using all of her other senses.Fortunately for her, Denver was always nearby to keep an eye on her. They’re practically inseparable, and whenever they’re apart, “Denver would come running back to love on Star and let her know he was there,” says the author.

Star may have been labeled as “special needs,” but don’t tell her brother. He didn’t think she was any less amazing because she was deaf and nearly blind!Jackie Kelleher, HWAC’s social media manager, explained to The Dodo how special their daily interactions with each other were:”When Star appears to be lost, Denver will rush over to her and check on her. They enjoy playing with each other, playing tumble, playing with rope toys, and chewing on stuffed animals.”

Denver makes certain that his sister is aware that he is never far away. He’s always there for her, like a good brother, whenever she needs help or just wants to play.”He accomplishes this by nudging her.”Star can also smell him, and if she becomes disoriented, she will move around the room until she finds him.”

“When she moves to a new location, she moves very slowly, cautiously putting one paw out in front of the other, and she’maps’ out the area around her.”Denver will always be aware of her needs, even when they are in the presence of humans.”There’s good news on the horizon for Star and Denver now that they’re happy, healthy, and ready to find their forever home. They will travel as a forever couple wherever they go.They will only be adopted together, according to HWAC.
