Meet The Refous-Created Coquette – A Unique Chubby Little Hummingbird (12 Pics)

The bird world is full of so many stunning and unique birds, you won’t believe are all real!

Introducing the rufous-crested coquette hummingbird, this bird sports a fairytale-esque crown that is like no other.

The crown coupled with its stunning plumage makes this hummingbird truly one-of-a-kind.

The rufous-crested coquette part of the hummingbird family, and is small and chubby and has a stunning iridescence, like most of the other sub-species.

But the male Rufous-crested Coquette easily stands out with its stunning orange crest with black tips.

Along with its bright green throat patch and white throat feathers, it’s a true marvel to look at.

Check it out in the video below.

The female is a little duller than the male, which is common with birds. She doesn’t sport the orange crest or green throat and looks like a regular colorful hummingbird.

Native to the tropical slopes of South America, these birds can be found in a range of countries along the Pacific and Caribbean mountainsides.

Their diet is similar to other hummingbirds, nectar, and lots of it.

They find the nectar in small scented flowers, just like a bee. They are known to eat small insects and spiders on occasion.

They prefer to live in subtropical/tropical lowland forests at high altitudes.

The breeding behaviors for this bird aren’t very well recorded and don’t go further than the male displaying its crest and a short flight display for the female.

The females build their cup-shaped nests with soft plant fibres, green moss and feathers. They prefer to place these nests in bushes, shrubs and small trees.
