What would you do if you were all alone in the frigid cold with your babies? With freezing to death, a real possibility if someone didn’t take mercy on you? Well, that’s the exact situation that this sweet little dog found herself in and cars just kept passing her by.
The Dog Rescue Shelter in Mladenovac, Serbia got an unfathomable call. Apparently, out on a rural highway covered in snow, a lost dog took shelter in a drainpipe. However, the dog was trying to get help and when cars passed by, she left the drainpipe in hopes someone would take notice and stop to help her.
The rescue quickly drove to the area and began to look for her. They soon found an opening in the drainpipe with paw prints leading to it in the snow. As they approached, an adorable blue-eyed dog came running out of the opening toward them, clearly happy that they stopped for her.
The rescuers decided to check the drainpipe and discovered that the cold dog had puppies with her in the pipe. But the puppies were scared and did not leave the warmth and safety of the pipe. So, they allowed the mother back in the pipe hoping that if they called her out, the puppies would follow.
Mom was willing but the puppies were too afraid. They growled and yipped wanting mom but afraid of what was happening and refused to follow her. With no choice, they put mom in the safety of their rescue van and went back for the puppies.
Using food to lure the puppies, they tried to coax them out of hiding. However, the puppies were not having any part of it and refused to budge. Due to the cold, things were getting desperate, so they decided to try to scare them out.
With one person on one end of the pipe nudging them forward and another gently sweeping them forward with a broom, they finally removed the first puppy from the pipe. Soon after, the rest followed and joined mom in the warmth of the van.
From the looks of things, all this happened just in time. With temperatures falling even more at night, the little family could not have survived the cold much longer. Thankfully someone called and notified the kind rescuers of the situation.
Now the adorable family was together again and on their way to warmth and safety. All will be well taken care of and provided homes of their own one day. Momma dog was so thankful for the help, too.
