Adoption Of An Orphaned Newborn Kitten By A 12 Year Old Dog

Morgan McKenzie was wandering around her Delaware property when she heard screaming from a hollowed-out log. The kitten, who looked to be alone, spoke in a gray and white voice. McKenzie made the decision to leave the kitten where she discovered her in case the mother returned.

McKenzie reviewed the journal again as night struck and understood the small animal needed her rescue.

“We went back to make sure she was gone when it became dark, but we could still hear her small screams,” McKenzie told The Dodo. “I don’t think she would have made it if we hadn’t taken her up.” She was just a few days old at the time. She was blind, her ears were still curled, and she was hungry.”

Polly Pocket was McKenzie’s inspiration for the kitten’s name. McKenzie carried the kitten home and gave her a bath in the sink since she was coated with fleas. Paxton, McKenzie’s 12-year-old Lab, wandered in to investigate what was going on.

McKenzie explained, “Paxton got to meet Polly just after her bath.” “At first, he liked her because he got to clean her after every bottle feed, and she liked it since she didn’t know any better.”

The big dog licking Polly clean was the first time the tiny orphan had ever seen a parent. She couldn’t tell how large her new companion was because her eyes were still closed; all she knew was that he looked after her.

McKenzie added, “She used to stand as motionless as she could until she could hear his footsteps.” “She’d dash over to the spot where she thought she heard him.”

Polly’s vision took five weeks to clear, and by that time, the two animals were over over heels in love. “I don’t think she ever knew any better,” McKenzie added, “so Polly thinks this is all normal.” “She grooms him, and he grooms her,” she says. She doesn’t seem to realize she’s a cat.”

The couple couldn’t be happier in one other’s presence, whether they’re snuggling on the couch, playing together, or dining together.

Polly is now 5 months old, and Paxton is nearly 13 years old, yet their love for each other is as strong as ever. Polly’s companion has shown incredible patience for her as she has matured and become more active – even when she takes his favorite toys.

“They still admire each other,” says the narrator “McKenzie explained. “She’s turning into the annoying little sister that follows him about and attacks the things he’s playing with.”
